Six Sentence Sunday: “Lord Bai and the Magic Pirate”

This week’s Six Sentence Sunday feature is the opening of a story I just finished. It was timely when I started it, but even more so now.

“What do spells, copying and writing have to do with pirates?” Lord Bai, White Dragon of the West, whined—no, repined in a light baritone befitting his human form.
“Not ‘copying and writing’—copy rights,” hissed the sorcery student sitting next to him. “Like Professor Yeoh said: All magicians are endowed as creators with certain unalienable rights, among them the right to profit from all copies of their spells, amulets and charms.”
“Even if somebody else does the copying?”
“Exactly.”

It’s always clever when a writer can illustrate public policy issues in a fictional way. Sometimes, it’s nice to get your opinion out there. Good six!

Thanks, Patricia. I can’t say the story comes to any conclusions in that regard, but it was fun to explore it from an outsider’s perspective. Bai, bless his little lizard head, is entirely at sea. 😉

Yep, pretty prescient, all right, Jean Marie. I really like the political undercurrent in this fantasy story. Good work and Great Six!

And all because I was asked to participate in an anthology and couldn’t think of a single new thing to say about boats. LOL

Too funny. Well done six and yes, very timely.

Thanks, Karysa. Hopefully, it gets even funnier from there. 🙂
