“HooDoo Cupid” to Be Published in February

July 19, 2009

Red Rose Publishing will release my Valentine’s Day short story, “Hoodoo Cupid” in February 2010. “Hoodoo Cupid” is a bit of a departure for me. It’s my first non-fantasy romance. Which isn’t to say there isn’t any weird… 😉

DC Area Storytellers D. Renee Bagby, Stephanie Burke and I will be signing at the Parkside Restaurant on Saturday, June 27, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The program will include readings from published stories and works in programs, and a good time is sure to be had by all. Hope to see you there!

New Short Story Released

May 31, 2009

“Yesterday I Will”, my 69-word short story, was selected for inclusion in the competition anthology of the same name edited by Jim Levin, Brian Koscienski and Chris Pisano. So far, it’s only available through Fortress Publishing, Amazon and The York Emporium, but if you like new voices and edgy science fiction, this is the anthology for you.

Con Schedule Update

May 16, 2009

The good folks at Capclave have decided to add me to their roster of stars. Capclave is the Washington DC-area science fiction, fantasy and horror convention which focuses on short fiction and proudly proclaims itself the con “Where reading is not extinct!” This year’s con will be held from October 16-18 at the Hilton Executive Meeting Center in Rockville, MD (just north of DC). If you’re in the area, I hope you’ll join the fun.

Spring and Summer Con Schedule

March 9, 2009

It’s official. I’ve been confirmed as a guest of RavenCon, Balticon and DragonCon. RavenCon will be in Richmond, VA, April 24-26, with five tracks of programming and a big emphasis on Edgar Allan Poe in honor of his 200th birthday. Balticon follows on Memorial Day weekend, May 22-25. Poe will be this long-running Baltimore con’s Ghost of Honor. (I think I’m sensing a theme here. :-)) Finally, there’s the Big Kahuna–Atlanta’s DragonCon, September 4-7. I’ve been counting the days to my favorite summer camp for wayward adults since I boarded the plane home last year. Hope to see you at one or all.

Photo Included in Calgary Tour Guide

February 22, 2009

A photo I took of Calgary’s Hyatt Regency Suites Hotel, site of the 2008 World Fantasy Con, has been selected for inclusion in the sixth edition of the Schmap Calgary Guide. The credited photo comes in two flavors–web browser and iPhone. This has to qualify as one of the trip’s most interesting souvenirs.

Book Signing Canceled

February 6, 2009

Well, my first JeanMarieWard.com news item became OBE in a hurry. Thanks to a nasty cold, which morphed into something worse, I cancelled out of tomorrow’s signing at the Annapolis Borders in Annapolis Mall. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t go. The fun kids will still be there. *smiles*
